SATURDAY SOFA CINEMA: SHORT CIRCUIT

short-circuit

Look, we all know the best robots in the world are The Terminator and Robocop, but both of those movies might be a bit heavy going when you’re nursing a hangover – you know, there’s a lot of blood and gore and killing and that, it might bring up that kebab from last night. Nobody wants that. So which robot can you spend an hour and a half with instead?

JOHNNY FUCKING 5, THAT’S WHO.

Because he’s a friendly robot! Sure, he’s been created by the government as the next big thing in military weaponry, but because he gets hit by lightning, he malfunctions and turns all friendly and funny and stuff. He’s just a nice guy to be around.

We loved Short Circuit when we were kids and used to get it pretty much every time we went to Blockbuster – probably should have just bought it to be honest, bit of a waste of money. It’s a perfect family film – it’s funny, it’s tense, it’s exciting and it even raises questions about mortality and all that guff – it’s got everything! It might even make you cry (not as much as the sequel though, WOWZAH), because Johnny 5 is such a lovable character and you don’t want the bad men to do a hurt on him.

Either way, we love this film (we’ll ignore the fact that it’s got a white guy pretending to be an Indian character – it was the 80s! Let them off!) because robots are wicked.

ROBOTS ARE WICKED.

It’s on SyFy at 5pm.
