You’re about to embark on a full UK/EURO tour with Thy Art Is Murder, what are your expectations and what do you want to accomplish from this tour?
The tour was put together pretty quickly so we don’t really know what to expect! This will be our 3rd tour in Europe and our second this year, we’re starting to see our fan base grow over there. We really want to push our album “Tyrant” as much as possible so we’re getting on the road every chance we get. I guess the aim of any tour is to promote and grow the band.
What are some of the major differences with touring in Australia to touring in the UK and Europe?
Some of the differences may seem obvious, like the language barrier in certain countries we travel to. Even things like working out the currency conversions is a day to day challenge. But Europe and the UK are amazing places to tour.
In Australia our major cities are literally a whole day’s drive apart, whereas you can drive for 2-3 hours in Europe and be in another country. The venues are really well set up for touring bands, providing us with things like catering, showers, Internet access etc, which a lot of Australian venues aren’t able to do. The fans in Europe and UK are extremely passionate, which is the main reason we love touring there and keep coming back.
What gives your band its identity over other bands in your music scene?
At first glance I think having 3 guitarists playing 8 strings is something that stands out, as well as our sci-fi themed lyrics and imagery. But what I think really gives us our identity is the music.
Memorable tracks such as “Hollow Planet”, “Overseer”, “Vectors” offer more than just fast drumming, shredding, and breakdowns. We place more of an emphasis on songwriting and creating hooks which should be an important part of any style of music.
